Arizona Fine Art EXPO

Date: 01/14/2010 - 03/28/2010
Time: 10:00 am - 06:00 pm
The Arizona Fine Art EXPO, produced by the award-winning Thunderbird Artists, showcases more than 100 nationally-acclaimed artists applying their artistic talents in studios. This event gives patrons unprecedented access to watch the world’s most gifted artists in Arizona. The artisans sketch passionately in pencil; charcoal and pastels; sculpt and fire clay; drill, chisel and carve stone; paint in all media; sketch and dye batiks; carve, stain and etch gourds; design lost wax casting; solder and weld jewelry; assemble mosaics and more. Art is for sale and commissions welcomed.

Enhancing the Arizona Fine Art EXPO is the charming Café de EXPO, where patrons can sit indoors surrounded by working artists, or outdoors surrounded by stunning sculptures.

The Arizona Fine Art EXPO has created a lovely two-acre sculpture garden enhanced with many native cacti and other plants that are identified with signage throughout the trails. Sponsor, Zuva Gallery, exhibits more than 25 natural stone sculptures created by recognized leading African artists. The garden attractions, sponsored by Pathways Nursery, include the elegance of a Koi pond and waterfall, hummingbird and butterfly garden, roses and even a putting green. Pathways Nursery brought in more than 200 cacti, yucca, succulents, shrubs, trees and desert plants that were carefully placed and planted. Such a variety of desert plants also creates a smorgasbord for all Sonoran wildlife. Manufactured by the Arizona Bridge Company, bridges intersect and cross over flowing water, stones, and sandy paths connecting the sculptures and educational garden trails.

The artists add to this aboriginal setting with their natural metals, found objects, clay and stone art positioned throughout the 2-acre sculpture garden. Patrons adore the peacefulness of strolling the courtyard paths and listening to the whispering sounds of water fountains that grace the pathways, thus adding that special ambiance patrons have become accustomed to when visiting a Thunderbird Artists’ event.

Weekends come alive with musical entertainment. Other events include quick draws, plein air painting, art classes and workshops, dramatic abstract painting demonstration to music, club meetings, fine wine tasting, and garden parties, new hat day celebrations, book signings by participating artists, gala and more.

A Koi pond specialist provides instructions on how to build a pond and waterfall, with proper care of Koi fish. The EXPO is proud to partner with Dr. Gerald A. Rosenthal, author of Desert Sonoran Life, and acknowledged authority on the flora of the Sonoran Desert. Dr. Rosenthal will offer a series of talks and group discussions on the Sonoran Desert as part of our sculpture-garden activities.
